Walmart or Ikea?/20off.com
If you like to save money, you will find nothing fun about shopping for furniture, because significant amounts of money are usually spent while doing that. And not just money – you have to worry about fitting whatever you’re buying into your car, unloading, and often assembling.
Walmart delivers and we enjoy
You also have to visualize how that piece will look at your house and worry about picking the right color and then finding it in stock.
Walmart furniture choices in store and online are plentiful
Shopping for furniture online at least takes away the worry about fitting it in the car. You also don’t usually inquire steep delivery fees as most of them ship cheaper when items are bought online. And finally, some retailers are beginning to release apps that let you plug in your rooms and decorate them in 3D – Houzz and Ikea, we are looking at you.
Walmart is huge and loved by many/20OFF LLC
Today we would like to focus on Ikea and Walmart and see which one of those affordable retailers offers better furniture shopping experience, choices, and prices.
Great deals on furniture at Walmart
Walmart stores are everywhere and prices are known not to bite. The retailer has so much to offer in physical stores that we don’t often think about its online division, but we should because it’s expansive and very convenient.
You can find anything you are looking for at Walmart
When it comes to furniture, you won’t find a lot at your local Walmart, but online you will be blown away by the amount of collections and individual items.
Supplies for every room at Walmart
Most people love the prices and customer service as well. If you have any questions, you can email them, call them, or start a live chat. Shipping is reasonably priced and doesn’t take too long.
High quality furniture sets from Walmart
People go to Walmart.com for sofas, chairs, ottomans, book shelves, lamps, TV stands, office desks, sound systems, dining room sets, and outdoor furniture. Outdoor furniture prices are hard to beat, especially at the end of summer and during Black Friday sales. Surprisingly, furniture from Walmart is high quality and stylish, and those two things don’t always come to mind when we think about Walmart.
Exclusive designer collections are also available at Walmart
Some collections are exclusively online, such as Drew Barrymore Flower Kids for Walmart. We were amazed by some cute book cases for kids from this collection that are also affordable! Cactus Book Case, Alligator Wall Shelf, and Rainbow Book Case range from $60 to $200 each, look luxurious, and can be delivered to your home via free 2-day delivery. Now try to beat that!
Fancy materials and simple prices
We think Walmart might be the best place to buy affordable furniture for your living, dining, and kid’s rooms. It’s definitely the best place to buy all the furniture for the patio.
Furniture for everyday décor from Walmart
The selection of sofas and bedroom sets is not as large though, so it’s one drawback.
Shopping at Walmart is never boring
We have to admit that you probably won’t furnish your home with luxurious furniture from Walmart, but you will love the prices and will be able to change your interior more often when items there won’t cost thousands of dollars. Sometimes this flexibility is a necessity, especially for young families with kids.
Sofa choice at Walmart

Ikea
Ikea – furniture giant from Sweden
Ikea can definitely compete with Walmart for furniture prices. The Swedish retailer is famous for stylish furniture for small spaces. It is also notorious for difficulty of assembly. When it comes to style preference, it’s hard to argue as it all depends on personal taste, but for convenience and price Walmart is a tough contender to beat.
Most people visit physical Ikea locations, but the website is also very easy to navigate and fun to use. You can spend hours on the website trying different set ups and variations, sometimes it takes too long to get to what you need.
One of the biggest drawbacks for Ikea is its shipping price, which is a lot steeper than Walmart’s – it starts at $49. You can get furniture delivered to your home or to the nearest Ikea store, which are not found everywhere, so some serious driving can be needed just to reach it.
Lots of choices on display
While furniture from Walmart requires some minor assembly, some Ikea’s goods can take hours to put together, unless you are buying a simple ottoman.
This might be personal opinion, but some collections at Walmart are more stylish than Ikea’s.
The most popular furniture pieces to buy at Ikea are couches, sofas, loveseats, accent furniture, recliners, and beds. Ikea definitely wins over Walmart for sofas selection and popularity, but Walmart one ups Ikea when it comes to outdoor furniture.
Walmart delivers if you ask
Tech-oriented people are going to love Ikea’s new app, with which they will be able to scan a piece of furniture and insert it in the 3D model of their home. How cool is that?
All in all, Ikea and Walmart are similar and different at the same time. It’s a matter of preference, but because of free shipping, convenience, and exclusive collections, we would go with Walmart.
