Old Ebbit Grill Review

Established in 1856, the Old Ebbit Grill is the oldest saloon in Washington DC.

However, the interior seems modern and you can’t tell its age upon first glance.

Upon sitting down, the server gives a brief history of the restaurant, explaining that Presidents and Senators have dines there before, and now it is our turn!

It offers several high end items, including caviar for over $70.

I ordered the Caesar Salad, the Shrimp Spaghettini, and the Chicken Fettucine pastas. First, let’s take a closer look at the Caesar Salad.

It has leaves, croutons, parmesan, and a pretty good sauce. However, just a single portion of this salad is made for cats. That’s right, it is extremely small. As a result, I had to order a second portion in order to be truly satisfied.

Next, I got the Shrimp Spaghettini, as well as the Chicken Fettucine pastas simultaneously. They were both incredible, since the pastas are freshly, hand made! First, let’s look at the Spaghettini.

The spaghetti noodles come with Shrimp as well as an excellent sauce to go with them. The menu highlights the following ingredients: cherry tomatoes, basil, garlic, chili flakes, and white wine lemon butter sauce. The shrimp was great, and the sauce complimented the meal quite well. I would say it is exactly what you’re expecting from a shrimp pasta meal. While it is nothing unusual, it is made with high quality, resulting in great taste.

The Chicken Fettuccine pasta is truly the star of the show. The sauce was extremely similar to an Alfredo sauce, mixed together with mushrooms. The menu highlights the following ingredients: shitake-cremini mushroom sauté, marsala cream, parsley, and pecorino romano. The meal also came with several slices of chicken breast. The fettuccine truly feels fresh here, and the sauce is exceptional. I would say it is much better than the Shrimp Spaghettini, even though that one was already pretty good. The pasta, combined with the sauce and the mushrooms melts in your mouth as you eat it, giving a very satisfying feel!

Ultimately, if you can only order a single pasta dish, the chicken fettuccine is definitely my first recommendation! It is absolutely incredible, and I will definitely try to recreate it myself at home.

This restaurant is amazing, but are there any downsides? There is no freshly squeezed orange juice. As a lover of orange juice, I found that to be quite upsetting. I ended up just sticking to bottled water I brought myself.

What surprised me the most is the fact that you can order not only through Grubhun or Doordash. Old Ebbit Grill delivers nationwide through food delivery service called Goldbelly. It’s no wonder, because the food is extremely popular. It’s like an oldest and most authentic part of Washington DC. And if you can’t go to Washington DC, the Washington DC comes to you.
